Would you like to be part of the Kyneton and District Town Square Co-Op Board?
It is unfortunate that the Co-Op has not been in a position to activate our sortition Board selection since 2021. The current Board is now keen to reactivate this exciting democratic initiative.
The sortition process to randomly select two people for the Co-Op Board is being independently handled by Deliberately Engaging on a pro bono arrangement.
Deliberately Engaging is a Sydney-based consultancy which recruits mini-publics, randomly selected groups for local councils and other government agencies. ( A ‘mini public’ seeks to ensure that the composition of the Board reflects the wider community)
This invitation is being sent to every household in Kyneton and District. Anyone in your household is welcome to register their interest. From the people who register, a random sample will be produced to select two board members, taking into account different ages and genders. Everyone over eighteen has a chance of being chosen. If other vacancies arise during the current term of the Board due to factors such as illness, the sortition list can be activated and used to fill an empty director position.

The Co-Op now has an opportunity to support our community so that local residents have a direct voice to government in relation to our vision for a Town Square. This is an exciting time to volunteer to join the Co-Op. Our Board is a ‘hands on’ crew who are prepared to roll up their sleeves to make good things happen.
