“Having broad experience in community development work spanning almost twenty years, I recognise the vital role of community connectedness in developing strong communities, hand-in-hand with empowerment, gained through sharing knowledge and skills and participation in grass roots local action and decision-making.
In 2017 I assisted Kyneton community groups and residents to form a reference group that succeeded in retaining the former Kyneton Primary School precinct in public ownership. Subsequently I was pleased to be involved in a steering group to develop the Constitution for the Kyneton & District Town Square Co-operative (KDTS Co-op), that was formed in 2018.
The historic primary school precinct, adjoining the Mechanics Institute Reserve, provides an outstanding opportunity to develop a vibrant town centre. The vision for the site developed in partnership with the community and progressed through the KDTS Co-op will enable the establishment of an innovative resource for the advancement of community now and into the future.
Moreover, the KDTS Co-op, with its history, informed vision and business plans, is well placed to manage the former primary school site given its sole purpose of managing and developing the precinct for the benefit of the whole of Kyneton and district community. I welcome the opportunity to contribute to the realisation of the community’s vision as a member of the Co-op Reference Panel.”
